Board Update – May 20th, 2024

It’s a busy time for our club leading up until the AGM on Sunday June 2nd.

It was lovely to be part of the Bowls Presentation afternoon on Saturday 18th May. Great to have it in our new lounge area and thanks to all members who organised the event, catered for it and all those who came along.

Special congrats to Lenny and Ellen who were our Club Champions for 2024 along with all winners and runner up members across the competitions.

Final thanks to the Championship committee who organised and coordinated the championships.

A few updates

  1. Simon Troon, who is a full paid social member, has been co-opted onto the Board to assist with finance. Simon is a banker with extensive experience in finance. We welcome him to the club.
  2. John Lord resigned from the current Board last week. We thank him for all of his work over the past 8 months.
  3. Alastair and Simon are finalising our budget. Financial statements and a full financial report  will be provided at the AGM and our new Auditors will also be attendance.

Mahjong

It is exciting to see our Mahjong players becoming more actively involved in the club. They have donated funds for a small bar fridge, a clock for the wall in the new lounge and also donated vouchers to BayCiss. A big thank you to them.

New Carpets

Thanks to Ellen Weir for her contacts and organisation for Bramwell Carpets to donate new carpet and lay the carpet all at no cost for our function room and back offices. It is great to continue to have renewal at the club and we greatly appreciate and thank Ellen and the Bramwell team.

Carpet Bowls

Thanks to Margaret Radford and her team for organising and running this winter’s Carpet Bowls. It is loads of fun as I discovered last week!!

Thanks also to Glen from Bridge for organising and setting the carpet bowls up each week.

Bridge

Bridge held a congress on May 4th at the Club which was highly successful and had a coffee van onsite. A good idea perhaps for some of bowls events.

Volunteers

A special thank you to all our Volunteers across all areas of the club. It is National Volunteers week from May 20th – May 27th. The Board is holding a special thank you lunch for all volunteers on Tuesday 11th June at noon. Look out for the invitation in your inbox and on the website soon.

Painting the Bar

Graham, Ian C and Phil have, in consultation with Ellen Weir, organised to paint the bar walls over the next week or so. Thank you to them again for all the maintenance and painting they are doing.

Grants for new bowls

In the past few months we have been lucky to receive two grants for our Bowlers.

1. Bendigo Bank provided funds to buy some smaller size bowls for some of our players and school children.

2. Rob Coulson organised through U3A funds for more bowls for our club.

We thank and congratulate Rob U3A  and the Grants and Sponsorship team for organising these.

The Bar

Denton has been managing the Bar now for about a month. It all seems to be going very  well. We would still like some extra volunteers on the Sunday nights we have music on the deck. Please let Denton know if you can help out occasionally.

Carol has organised our new T Shirts with the Sea Dragon logo for Bar Staff. Thank Carol!

As always, please feel free to contact Kathy or any member of the Board if you wish to discuss anything.

AGM – Sunday June 2 @ 9.30 am

Bowls nominations open on June 4th 2024.

Enjoy!!
