The Hampton Bayside Bowls club is actually more than a Bowls club.
We have functions, social and community activities and members across a wide age range.
Being part of a local community requires us to look out for and ensure that all members are respected and cared for.
Our wellbeing group provides a range of supports for all members including:
-
- Presentations on a range of health/ retirement/ social related issues
- Social get togethers
- Acknowledgment of special events/birthdays
- Looking out for members who may be unwell
- Ensuring health and safety around the club
- Support for members whose families who may be unwell or a death in the family
- A point of contact for members needing support
Simply put, our aim is to look after our members, so that they can enjoy their membership of Hampton Bayside Bowling Club. This can be as simple as checking how someone is getting on if they’ve had a recent illness, or sending a get-well or sympathy card, offering a shoulder to cry on or a bit of friendly counselling. We want our members to feel cared for and supported.
Arm in arm with this approach we want to provide practical support to bowlers, particularly those new to the sport, to perhaps improve their fitness or mobility. Coaching can address their technique, but if there are underlying health or structural issues, their ability will be impeded.
To this end we will offer a range of events to bring a variety of health practitioners into the club to address our members or test them if necessary.
The first of these events was held on Wednesday 21 February when 35 members were highly engaged in a presentation by Anna-Mai Hoek, a local remedial massage therapist. You can find a link to her presentation here.
In the coming months, we hope to have events providing podiatrists and audiologists. We hope they will be as successful as this initial session.
