Gary Anderson
Chair

Gary has helped organisations for over 45 years to improve their operations and success through technology, collaboration, risk management and governance.
Gary works closely with senior executives and Board Members and was a senior partner at Ernst & Young / Andersen where he created and led major divisions. He started Protiviti in Australia and then led the Asia Pacific region for 10 years.

Gary is a past Director of Very Special Kids, the International IIA Board, President of IIA Australia, a member of the Australian Stock Exchange (ASX) working group and various AICD research projects.

Gary is still running marathons and is passionate about the benefits of successful sport and community clubs.

Andy Bendell
Director of Administration

Andy has over 45 years experience in the property industry, 36 years of which have been gained working in Australia specialising in the Commercial, Industrial and Retail sectors.

Prior to commencing his own Building Consultancy business in 2016 he has accumulated a broad range of experience covering real estate, facilities management, asset management, and building consultancy in senior positions with major companies and real estate agencies including JLL, Colonial First State Investments, where he was responsible for leading their in-house property management team and managing some 604,500 square metres of assets, NDY (Building Services Engineers), and Davis Langdon an AECOM Company (Quantity Surveyors), where he was responsible for their National Property Consultancy teams.

In earlier Property Asset Management roles he gained experience in facilities management, including procurement, reviewing, writing, and executing maintenance contracts, the review of lease documentation clauses, risk minimisation, and preparing and implementing operational maintenance and capital expenditure budgets, and operating expenditure benchmarking.

Andy is a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (FRICS), a Licensed Real Estate Agent in Victoria, and until recently an Associate Member of the Australian Property Institute.

He was Awarded the RICS Australia Lifetime Achievement Award in 2024.

He is passionate about using his property and building skills and experience to extend the life of the Clubhouse Buildings and infrastructure for the ongoing use of all members.

Trent Bond
Director of Finance

Trent Bond is the Chief Financial Officer of Sports Entertainment Network (SEN), where he is responsible for driving the company’s financial strategy and performance. A Chartered Accountant (CA) with deep expertise in finance, business operations, and corporate governance, Trent plays a central role in steering SEN’s financial direction and ensuring sustainable growth.

With a background in managing financial functions at a senior level, Trent has led key initiatives that have supported SEN’s expansion across its diverse media platforms, enhancing its reputation as a leading sports media entity in Australia and New Zealand. He oversees a wide range of financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting, investor relations, and compliance.

Known for his strategic acumen and collaborative leadership approach, Trent ensures that SEN’s financial objectives align seamlessly with its broader business goals, driving long-term value for the company and its stakeholders.

Prior to his role at SEN, Trent held senior finance positions across various industries, including RSEA Safety, Programmed and KPMG.

Phil Gibbons
Director of Bowls

Business Experience: Phil worked as a Manufacturing Engineer for 36 years. A significant part of this time was for a company supplying the automotive industry (e.g. Holden, Toyota, Ford). He held positions of Quality Manager, Manufacturing Manager, and Engineering Manager at various times.

Phil was a member of the Management Team for about 10 years and retired when the automotive industry stopped at the end of 2017.

Community Involvement: Phil was involved with Scouts Australia for 15 years as a Leader; was a member of the Bayside Bushwalking Club for 10 years and on its Committee for 5 years.

Bowling Involvement: Phil joined Hampton Bowls Club in 2020 after being part of the U3A group from that year.

Shona Bass
Director

Shona brings to the HBBC Board experience and expertise developed over forty years working in small business, universities, Boards, For-Purpose organisations, and sporting organizations.

Shona’s leadership roles include being a University Professor and Head of School, CEO, Business Owner, and executive consultant. She also has over forty years of soccer coaching at community, state and national level.

Shona’s past professional contributions include being on the International Olympic Committee for Women and Sport, an inaugural committee member of Women Sport Australia, President and Board Member of the Australian Exercise and Sport Science Association, and Sports Medicine Australia Fellow and the Australian Women in Sport Committee.

She has been the recipient of numerous international and national awards and published extensively in top ranking international journals in medicine, exercise, and sport.

Most recently Shona was elected as Inaugural President of the Matildas Alumni Association.

Justin Joiner
Director

Justin Joiner is a hospitality professional with a passion for great beer. He has more than 25 years of management experience here and in the UK, working in a wide range of businesses from fine dining restaurants to bars and pubs.

Justin is a co-founder of Stomping Ground Brewing Co, a multi award winning independent brewery that was established in Collingwood in 2016 and has grown to comprise 3 large format hospitality venues and a significant wholesale business supplying retails stores, restaurants, pubs and clubs, including the Hampton Bayside Bowls Club.

Justin is a Hampton local who is deeply involved in the local community through his three children at Hampton Primary School as well as community sport, particularly at the Hampton Rovers.

Justin is passionate about great hospitality and is looking forward to seeing the club grow as a thriving community hub.

Les Woolridge
Director

Prior to establishing his own marketing and communications consultancy Les held management positions in a number of multinational advertising agencies in Australia. He’s also held senior marketing management positions at ANZ Banking Group, Australia Post, Mercer Australia, and ran his own business in the automotive sector.

Les is certified in the marketing design and management disciplines of Agile Methodology and Human Centred Design. He was made a Fellow of the Australian Marketing Institute in 1986, an Associate Fellow of the Marketing Association of Australia & New Zealand in 1990, and has been a Marketing Lecturer / Tutor at RMIT for Undergraduate studies and Swinburne University for Postgraduate studies.

Les was a Board Member of the former Hampton Bowls Club and is an Inaugural Board Member of the Hampton Bayside Bowls Club Inc. He’s been an active Member of the Club since 2014 and is a current Pennant Bowler. Les is also a Bowls Australia / AIS Accredited Coach as well as a National Umpire; officiating at the Australian Open and Victorian Open.

Dr Kathy Walker OAM
Ex-officio Past Chair

Kathy is highly respected for her expertise and skills in change management, effective communication and leadership, conflict resolution and relationship enhancement.

Kathy presents to, and coaches, educators, leaders and organisations across the world in a wide range of sectors including the corporate world, educational settings and Boards of Management. Kathy is a highly sought-after keynote speaker, facilitator and coach.

Kathy’s outstanding contribution is demonstrated by being awarded an Order of Australia in 2015 and is the recipient of many fellowships and awards.

She was an academic at RMIT University, Manager of Child and Adolescent Therapy, Monash University, and was Founding Director of the international organisation Early Life Foundations which supports parents and educators in the early childhood and primary sectors across the world.

She has had experience as a Board member in a number of organisations and has worked in leadership and change management for twenty years nationally and internationally.

Kathy is a recognised author of seven text books with Penguin Publishing and the Australian Council of Educational Research.
